I'm starting to consider heading through these mountains into Vegas. Instead of south, and around them. I did want to see Sedona, but I'm starting to realize I'm enjoying myself much more when I can sit still, and enjoy one place for a few days.
I got friends in Vegas, L.A. and San fran. So when I leave tomorrow, I'll just drive up to Highway 70, look west, look south and make up my mind. It actually feels good to know I can do that if I want.

Of course the vote is yours but I'll give ya the rest of my campaign speech for Sedona. I can definitely understand why you enjoy yourself more when you stay in a place for a few days, but Boulder is the first taste that you've gotten of CO/AZ/NV area. Just driving through some of those areas is absolutely amazing. Especially if you don't see Garden of the Gods in CO, Sedona is the place to see the huge red rock formations. Btw, I saw Red Rocks and I'd LOVE to see a concert there. Anyway I completely enjoyed myself in Sedona with only 2 or 3 hours there. You've seen beautiful scenery and mountains so far in your trip but prolly not any absolutely amazing natural wonder-- don't pass up the opportunity. Even a few moments of soaking up the awesomeness of a natural wonder can fill you with energy that lasts for days. At least it does me.
Your saying you can turn left or right reminds me of the poem we had to memorize in 7th grade. Two road diverged in a yellow wood, and be one traveler long I stood and looked down one as far as I could . . . Then took the other . . because it was grassy and wanted wear . . . I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence . . I took the one less traveled by, and that had made all the difference. To me Sedona is the road less traveled-- it isn't the direct route. It's the place I only knew about, not from travel books but from the locals. Whatever you do, I hope you love it.
